Carrefour to Launch New Wholesale Hypermarket in Colombia

On February 26th, Carrefour will launch a new wholesale store in Colombia known as Atacadao. The Brazilian business model was purchased by the Carrefour Group in 2007 and has been very successful in Brazil thus far. The first Atacadao in Colombia, located at Calle 13 and Boyacá Avenue, will offer discount prices up to 10-15%. The hypermarket aims to meet the needs of its target market consisting mainly of shopkeepers and merchants.

According to a statement made by Franck Pierre, president of Carrefour Colombia, “If the model is successful in this country, we will reproduce it in other places such as Argentina, Spain, and even China.”

Carrefour’s vision for 2015 is to have more than 25 Atacadao hypermarket’s throughout the country. To date, Carrefour has over 60 supermarkets in Colombia and employs nearly 9,000 people.

The Carrefour Group received a “Top Employer” award in France for the second year in a row in recognition of its performance in the field of Human Resources.
